2021 Chevy Tahoe Reviews
Freshly redesigned for 2021, the all-new Chevy Tahoe is here to challenge the Ford Expedition for the top full-size SUV spot. If you’re searching Gastonia for a full-size SUV with the towing power of a Silverado and the interior space to seat your whole family, the new Tahoe delivers on every count. Need proof? Keep reading for a look at 2021 Chevy Tahoe reviews from auto industry experts at Car and Driver, Edmunds, and more.
What’s New for the 2021 Chevy Tahoe?
In their new Chevy Tahoe review, Car and Driver appreciates the 2021 model’s “completely redesigned exterior and interior design,” as well as a “host of new technology” and “the addition of a diesel engine option.” The reaction is the same from other top reviewers across the board:
- Car and Driver: “The 2021 Tahoe is not only bigger on the outside, its third row and cargo area have grown, too. This is partly due to the debut of its independent rear suspension, which fixes the issues that plagued the previous generation.”
- Cars.com: “The new [Tahoe] models are considerably bigger than the outgoing ones, and even bigger in some ways than the Expedition. They have a new rear suspension that opens up the cargo area and third-row seating considerably, with new flexible seating options that make getting into that third row a snap.”
- Autoblog.com: “The 2021 Tahoe is unquestionably a major improvement over its predecessor. The independent rear suspension in particular corrects the previous ride, handling and interior packaging issues, while the new cabin keeps the Tahoe fresh and modern in a segment that is mostly quite the opposite.”
Chevy Tahoe Reviews: Performance
New Chevy Tahoe reviews also note some key upgrades to this year’s engine lineup. Last year’s gasoline options are upgraded with a standard 5.3L V8 and an optional 6.2L V8 – just what you need to haul your RV out from Concord. New for 2021, an optional turbocharged 3.0L diesel inline-six engine will save you fuel on the highway to Rock Hill, SC. Here’s more on the matter from auto experts:
- Edmunds: “[The Tahoe] is built on the same truck platform that underpins the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Tahoe’s big brother, the Suburban. That means it can tow and haul like a full-size pickup, but it’s got three spacious rows of seating so you can bring the family along, too.”
- Edmunds: “Depending on its configuration the Tahoe can tow between 7,600 pounds and 8,400 pounds when properly equipped. That’s stout and enough for you to tow most recreational-style trailers.”
- Cars.com: “The engine and transmission pairing is very well matched, and despite that this is basically the same transmission in the Ford (part of a joint venture between the automakers with different gear ratios and software), it shows how well GM powertrain engineers know their stuff that it feels so at home snuggled up next to the big Chevy V-8.”
Chevy Tahoe Reviews: Interior Dimensions and Features
From interior tech and dimensions to engines, word on the 2021 Tahoe has been positive across the board. In terms of improvements over last year’s model, auto experts are most enthusiastic about its added interior volume. The new Chevy Tahoe reviews below bring the point home:
- Car and Driver: “The Tahoe’s improved interior packaging also provides a lower and flatter load floor thanks to its new architecture and independent rear suspension; the cargo area with the second and third rows folded balloons to 123 cubic feet (28 more than before). We managed to fit six carry-on suitcases behind the third row versus the outgoing model’s four-bag limit.”
- Cars.com: The Tahoe is also extremely comfortable in any seat in the house. The front seats are generous, but even the folding second-row captains chairs are pleasant. They fold, tumble and slide using two big handles or a strap in the back, creating a flattish cargo floor when folded completely or allowing for legroom negotiation between all three rows.
- Edmunds: “Interior storage gets a big improvement in the available power-sliding center console. It features a big bin under the armrest and when slid rearward, it reveals a large rubberized tray and another drawer. Usually, this kind of versatility and convenience is exclusive to minivans.”
- Autoblog.com: “Controls are easy to use and access with plenty of knobs and buttons. The standard 10-inch touchscreen is large, easy to read and reach, and it’s plenty responsive. Chevy also offers quite a bit of fancy technology including a 15-inch head-up display, dual 12.6-inch second-row monitors, and a wide array of trailering cameras. Those rear screens also can connect with the navigation system so rear passengers can locate and suggest destinations. Media can be shared between the two rear screens, too, or operated separately.”
