Rick Hendrick's Generosity

Rick Hendrick, owner of several NASCAR teams and Hendrick Motorsports, and Chairman & CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, came to visit "the new" City Chevrolet on Friday, November 13, 2009. City Chevrolet has recently experienced a "face lift." With mandates from Chevrolet on making all the Chevy stores look uniform, in addition to a little work that needed to be done, since City has been at its current location since 1966 without too many major renovations, we've had plenty of changes occur throughout the dealership over the past month.

While Mr. Hendrick (see photo above, first from right) was here, he got to chatting with Elizabeth Hastings (above, second from right) and her 9-year old son Andrew (above, second from left), who were purchasing a 2004 Suburban from Larry McCain (above, first from left). Elizabeth was expressing her gratitude to the team at City Chevrolet, specifically Larry McCain (salesperson), Bruce Forret (Pre-Owned Sales Director), and Jerry Ferrell (General Manager), for their assitance in helping her get the SUV she's been wanting.

The Hastings family has quite a story. Two years ago, son, Andrew, was hit (literally) by a car. Andrew lost his leg, and since then, has had 10 surgeries. His last surgery was in March of this year. Unfortunately, Elizabeth's husband, Sargeant Robert Hastings, had left for Iraq 2 days prior to Andrew's surgery and is still currently serving overseas. Andrew has a prosthetic leg and has had to have 8 prosthetics over the past two years, since he has to get a new one after each surgery and also as he grows. He is due to have at least 1 more surgery. In addition, Elizabeth Hastings is fighting Cancer.

Elizabeth tells us that Andrew has been asking for a Suburban for the past 2 years. He kept saying "We're never going to get a Suburban!" Needless to say, Andrew was surprised and delighted when they came in to finally get their Suburban. The Hastings have 3 children and the Suburban is much needed. Salesperson Larry McCain assured Elizabeth, "If it's the last thing on Earth I do, I'll get you a Suburban."

Elizabeth told Rick Hendrick this story when he was in here that day and Mr. Hendrick did something that took the breath away from Elizabeth and Andrew...he paid for their Suburban! As if meeting Rick Hendrick and having him pose for a couple pictures with her son wasn't exciting enough that day, they now had the Suburban of their dreams and it was already paid for. This is just one more thing that further displays the generosity displayed by Rick Hendrick. When I asked Elizabeth what she felt, she said, "It's amazing how God has been right there holding my hand through this ordeal. Andrew got hit and saw an angel on the side of the road. From that day, I knew that God was with us through the whole experience."

We thoroughly enjoyed taking this opportunity to introduce ourselves, meet you, and mingle throughout our short time together. At this luncheon, City Chevrolet's General Manager, Jerry Ferrell, addressed the employees and told them that City Chevrolet supports them and our team is here to help when needed. Team Hendrick Leads NASCAR Banking 500

Hendrick Motorsports starts on the front row for the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Great job to the entire gang of Team Hendrick, as they have 4 Hendrick drivers out of the top 10. Jimmie Johnson, driver of the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet placed first during pole night and will be #1 on the line on Saturday night. His teammate, Mark Martin, driver of the #5 Pop-Tarts/Carquest Chevrolet, will literally be his right-hand man, starting second. RICK HENDRICK TO APPEAR ON 'THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW'

HENDRICK'S JIMMIE JOHNSON WINS AT MARTINSVILLE!

Congratulations to the driver of the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet, Jimmie Johnson, for taking home the victory in Martinsville for Sunday's 500-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event! This was an extra-special day for team owner, Rick Hendrick, as this was the 25th anniversary of Team Hendrick's first win.

On April 29, 1984, Geoff Bodine took the #5 Chevrolet to Victory Lane at this track. This win, 25 years ago, earned Team Hendrick a sponsor for the season and helped jumpstart what is now an organization that holds 12 NASCAR championships. On Sunday, March 29, 2009, the Hendrick Team celebrated with Jimmie Johnson, as it picked up its 176th Cup win.

First 2010 Chevrolet Camaro VIN0001 Drives Off the Line - Plant Footage

City Chevrolet's General Manager, Jerry Ferrell, was present at the Canada GM Factory to watch Rick Hendrick drive the very first 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, VIN#0001, off of the assembly line.

Mr. Hendrick...Say "CHEESE!" What an exciting day it was at the Oshawa, Ontario General Motors assembly plant on Monday, March 16, 2009. Owner of the largest privately-held automobile organization and Hendrick Motorsports, Rick Hendrick brought a team of roughly 17 of his top dealers from Charlotte, NC to commemorate the first official day of production for the all-new 2010 Chevy Camaro. The Camaro was discontinued from the Chevrolet line-up back in 2002 and has become one of the most highly-anticipated new-car launches in automotive history.

General Motors has already pre-sold 14,000 of the new Camaros. However, Rick Hendrick paid a pretty penny to be able to get the 1st Camaro off the production line...$350,000! This was done earlier in 2009 at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event which guaranteed Mr. Hendrick the 2010 Camaro with a VIN that ended in 0001. All of the proceeds from this sale went to the American Heart Association. Chevrolet had also agreed to sell him VIN 0002, which onlookers were pleased to capture on their cameras, as well.

VIN 0001 was a loaded Black Camaro SS with the optional Inferno Orange leather interior. VIN 0002 was a Silver Ice Metallic Camaro SS with Black leather interior. Rick Hendrick is truly a motivational speaker and he rejuvenated the General Motors' factory employees by saying, "I want to tell you loud and clear that these products that you are building today are the best I've ever seen in the 33 years I've been a dealer. We needed the rebirth of the Camaro." He then proceeded to sign t-shirts and memorabilia for the factory employees, as many proved to be avid NASCAR fans.

Amongst the team of top dealers that Rick Hendrick had accompany him to this monumental occasion, was City Chevrolet's very own General Manager and Executive Vice President, Jerry Ferrell. Jerry was so excited upon his return and shared the day's events with any employee who asked and was proud to show his photos of this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Brad Keselowski Joins Hendrick Motorsports Team

Hendrick Motorsports is proud to welcome 24-year-old Brad Keselowski to the team. Brad will make his debut on October 11, 2008 during the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway and follow that up with the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on November 2nd.

Ricky Hendrick Memorial Charity Ride

The 4th annual Ricky Hendrick Memorial Charity Ride is scheduled for Sunday, August 24, 2008. Presented by AutoTrader.com, this 48-mile motorcycle ride will depart Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC at 11:30 am (staging begins at 7:30 am) and will conclude at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. All proceeds will benefit the Hendrick Foundation for Children and go toward the Levine Children's Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center. The cost is $25 per rider, which includes lunch, a t-shirt, and a concert by country music artist Blake Wise. The Richard Petty Driving Experience will provide 3-lap "charity rides" for a $109 donation. The Hendrick Automotive Group President's Club Awards Ceremony and trip have come and gone. This year, City Chevrolet's top 5 salespeople were honored at a magical ceremony, the type that only Disney and Hendrick Automotive Group could produce, which was held at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Those in attendance were Dan Franklin (Commercial Sales), James Potter (New Car Sales), Andy Snyder (New Car Sales), Phil Goodin (Pre-Owned Sales), and Keith Black (Commercial Sales), along with their guests.

The theme of this year's awards banquet was "Simply the Best" and featured praises and words of wisdom from Kirk Heppler (Senior Vice President and Western Division C.O.F.), Tom Blocker (Senior Vice President and Eastern Division C.O.F.), Jim Huzl (President/Chief Executive Officer), and founder of the Hendrick Automotive Group, Rick Hendrick himself. Mr. Hendrick spoke about the philosophy of the Hendrick Automotive Group and the characteristics that the company prides itself on--character, hardwork, enthusiasm, a team spirit, and family. Above all else, Mr. Hendrick believes in taking care of his employees, the importance of family, and doing what is right for his customers.
