Rick Hendrick's Generosity

Rick Hendrick, owner of several NASCAR teams and Hendrick Motorsports, and Chairman & CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, came to visit "the new" City Chevrolet on Friday, November 13, 2009. City Chevrolet has recently experienced a "face lift." With mandates from Chevrolet on making all the Chevy stores look uniform, in addition to a little work that needed to be done, since City has been at its current location since 1966 without too many major renovations, we've had plenty of changes occur throughout the dealership over the past month.

While Mr. Hendrick (see photo above, first from right) was here, he got to chatting with Elizabeth Hastings (above, second from right) and her 9-year old son Andrew (above, second from left), who were purchasing a 2004 Suburban from Larry McCain (above, first from left). Elizabeth was expressing her gratitude to the team at City Chevrolet, specifically Larry McCain (salesperson), Bruce Forret (Pre-Owned Sales Director), and Jerry Ferrell (General Manager), for their assitance in helping her get the SUV she's been wanting.

The Hastings family has quite a story. Two years ago, son, Andrew, was hit (literally) by a car. Andrew lost his leg, and since then, has had 10 surgeries. His last surgery was in March of this year. Unfortunately, Elizabeth's husband, Sargeant Robert Hastings, had left for Iraq 2 days prior to Andrew's surgery and is still currently serving overseas. Andrew has a prosthetic leg and has had to have 8 prosthetics over the past two years, since he has to get a new one after each surgery and also as he grows. He is due to have at least 1 more surgery. In addition, Elizabeth Hastings is fighting Cancer.

Elizabeth tells us that Andrew has been asking for a Suburban for the past 2 years. He kept saying "We're never going to get a Suburban!" Needless to say, Andrew was surprised and delighted when they came in to finally get their Suburban. The Hastings have 3 children and the Suburban is much needed. Salesperson Larry McCain assured Elizabeth, "If it's the last thing on Earth I do, I'll get you a Suburban."

Elizabeth told Rick Hendrick this story when he was in here that day and Mr. Hendrick did something that took the breath away from Elizabeth and Andrew...he paid for their Suburban! As if meeting Rick Hendrick and having him pose for a couple pictures with her son wasn't exciting enough that day, they now had the Suburban of their dreams and it was already paid for. This is just one more thing that further displays the generosity displayed by Rick Hendrick. When I asked Elizabeth what she felt, she said, "It's amazing how God has been right there holding my hand through this ordeal. Andrew got hit and saw an angel on the side of the road. From that day, I knew that God was with us through the whole experience."

We thoroughly enjoyed taking this opportunity to introduce ourselves, meet you, and mingle throughout our short time together. At this luncheon, City Chevrolet's General Manager, Jerry Ferrell, addressed the employees and told them that City Chevrolet supports them and our team is here to help when needed. We wanted to make sure that the HMS employees were introduced to our management staff to ensure that when they purchase vehicles from, and service their vehicles at City Chevrolet, that the managers are here to ensure their complete satisfaction and make sure that everything goes just as we expect with all of our customers. As organizers of the luncheon, Nikki Potter (Internet Marketing Manager) and Heather Drayton (Assistant CDC/Internet Director), would like to extend a special thank you to Heather Buckelew, Executive Assistant at Hendrick Motorsports, as she was instrumental in the execution and success of this event. Team Hendrick Leads NASCAR Banking 500

Hendrick Motorsports starts on the front row for the NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Great job to the entire gang of Team Hendrick, as they have 4 Hendrick drivers out of the top 10. Jimmie Johnson, driver of the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet placed first during pole night and will be #1 on the line on Saturday night. His teammate, Mark Martin, driver of the #5 Pop-Tarts/Carquest Chevrolet, will literally be his right-hand man, starting second. Two other Hendrick Motorsports teammates, Brad Keselowski, driver of the #25 Go Daddy.com Chevrolet, and Jeff Gordon, driver of the #24 Dupont/Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Chevrolet, will begin the race in 9th and 10th, respectively. RICK HENDRICK TO APPEAR ON 'THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW'

City Chevrolet congratulates Team Hendrick on Sunday's race. Jeff Gordon took 2nd place at Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Auto Club Speedway in California. Gordon led the pack 5 times during the race and 64 laps, but couldn't pull past the race winner, Matt Kenseth, at the end of the race. Gordon is ranked 2nd in the driver standings, followed by teammates Jimmie Johnson (19th), Mark Martin (27th), and Dale Earnhardt Jr (35th). The Hendrick Motorsports teams are looking forward to next Sunday's 285-lap event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gordon said, "I'm fired up, man. I'll tell you what, I can't wait to get to Vegas. This car is awesome fast. We showed it at Daytona and we showed it here today. I'm so proud of (crew chief) Steve Letarte and all these guys. They work so hard and they've taken a lot of heat over the last year. And they've got what it takes this year to give me the stuff and it is a privilege to drive." Bank of America 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

The Bank of America 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race was Saturday, October 11 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Congratulations to the entire Hendrick Motorsports Team, which included Jimmie Johnson leading the way for the team and finishing sixth. Other Hendrick Teammates included Jeff Gordon finishing in eighth place, Casey Mears in 29th, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. coming in 36th.

Top 3 winners of this race were Jeff Burton, Kasey Kahne, and Kurt Busch. Congrats to all!

Brad Keselowski Joins Hendrick Motorsports Team

Hendrick Motorsports is proud to welcome 24-year-old Brad Keselowski to the team. Brad will make his debut on October 11, 2008 during the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway and follow that up with the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on November 2nd.

Owner of Hendrick Motorsports, Rick Hendrick, says, "He has a load of talent and potential, and we're excited to give him an opportunity at the next level." As a native of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Keselowski says, "The Sprint Cup Series has always been a goal, and now it's up to me to take advantage of the opportunity. I have to thank Mr. Hendrick, Dale Jr. and the folks at GoDaddy.com for showing so much faith in me."

Ricky Hendrick Memorial Charity Ride

The 4th annual Ricky Hendrick Memorial Charity Ride is scheduled for Sunday, August 24, 2008. Presented by AutoTrader.com, this 48-mile motorcycle ride will depart Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC at 11:30 am (staging begins at 7:30 am) and will conclude at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. All proceeds will benefit the Hendrick Foundation for Children and go toward the Levine Children's Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center. The cost is $25 per rider, which includes lunch, a t-shirt, and a concert by country music artist Blake Wise. The Richard Petty Driving Experience will provide 3-lap "charity rides" for a $109 donation. Rick Hendrick says, "This couldn't happen without the support we receive from everyone who participates--our riders, volunteers, and corporate partners. It's just so humbling, and we appreciate everyone who comes out to join us for the event. We're raising money for a great cause and having fun doing it."
